Duration: One Scene
Prerequisite Charms: Flickering Flame Approach

In the heart of his being, the Pyrotechnic Savant master fosters a mighty engine of destruction – a swirling conflagration of fire and essence compressed into a single thought, ever-present in his mind. When he has call to unleash that righteous fire, any who stand against him will surely burn. While this charm is active, the martial artist is haloed in a blazing corona of purest unwavering sun-fire, and gains the following benefits:

  • The character wields pure fire as a weapon in melee. This phantom melee weapon has the speed, accuracy, damage, and rate of his usual form weapon, and defense rating equal to the character’s Essence. It counts as a form weapon, can parry lethal attacks, and additionally has the properties of a Beam Weapon (Alchemicals, Page 110-111).
  • The character absorbs any and all hostile energy attacks directed at him, rendering him utterly immune to the effects of fire, lightning, cold, light, raw essence, and any similar attacks. If the user possesses an active Overdrive pool, two offensive motes are contributed to that pool for each such attack negated by this effect.

Design Commentary

All of the offensive charms presented up to this point have required a form weapon to use, making this style apparently useless in close quarters. This potent charm – with a correspondingly high activation price – changes that, by porting the character’s ranged capabilities into the melee arena. Ultimately, its benefits are largely defensive – even the magically created weapon is decidedly defensive in its effects, but it also lends a great deal of style to the martial artist when forced into close combat.
